Mid-Week Music #31 - Watchin' and Waitin'

This week’s song has been in my head all day, and I’m really not sure why. I may have watched it yesterday, but I don’t remember. I must have. And the song may require a little context as to just why they’re watching and waiting.

You see, this being Phineas and Ferb, Candace is trying to get their mom to see the crazy things the boys build. But it always disappears right before she shows up. So this time, she’s convinced them all to watch it and make sure it doesn’t disappear until Mom gets there. So they’re watching, and waiting.

***

We’re watchin’, and waitin’
On the edge of our seats, anticipatin’
It’s lookin’ awful permanent
But we know it might go awa-a-a-a-ay…

We’re keepin’ our eyes peeled, keeping them glued to the spot
‘Cause one moment it’s there, but then the next, maybe not
Don’t know if it’s magic or some weird cosmic plot
So we’re watchin’, and waitin’…

**

We’re starin’ and we’re glarin’ ‘til our corneas burn
We hope it’ll stay for the rest of the day ‘til our momma returns
So don’t even think about blinking or it just might go… away…

So we’re watchin’, and waitin’
So we’re watchin’, and waitin’
Yeah, we’re watchin’, and waitin’
We’re watchin’…

I guess there is a reason, outside of its following me around for the past 24 hours, that I included it. Well, two, really.

First off, the Five Poisoned Apples contest. I entered a story, and the winners will be announced very soon—officially, on April 2, but specially for the contestants on March 31st. I got an invitation to attend a special Facebook event on Saturday. I know it’ll pass by very quickly, but I still have to wait, to watch and see who will win. (I’m so excited!)

But second, because the next few days, we will be in a sort of Advent—like what we go through as we wait for Christmas. We will be waiting for Easter. I don’t know what all of my readers will be doing over the next three days, but my family will be thinking about Jesus Christ, and everything He did for us almost two thousand years ago.

It’s funny—once Easter had come, the disciples wouldn’t be able to keep Jesus from disappearing just by looking at Him. One moment, He was there, but the next, maybe not. He had much to do, I’m sure. But the hope He brought won't disappear: that is always there. It was all part of the great plot of the Story. We at our house will be watching as the Story is retold across the next few days, and waiting for Easter.

We’ll be watching… and waiting…
