Mid-Week Music #29 - With a Smile and a Song

Okay, with this one, I really am time travelling in order to post it. Sort of. I’m writing it shortly after returning from my Nanna’s house, though I got there on Wednesday. But I decided I should do a month’s worth of MWM posts for my first month on a new blog.

So, for the past few days, I’ve been staying at Nanna and Pawpaw’s house to help take care of my great-Grandmom. To make it brief, she’s not been feeling well. So, she’s staying with them, and I’ve been helping take care of them. Even though I missed my family, I had a lot of fun there. I’m just glad I’ve been able to help out.

The last night I was there, Grandmom and I watched a couple of movies while Nanna watched her shows in the living room. They were both old Disney princess movies. And the first one, as you may have guessed by this point, was their first—Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

With a smile and a song
Life is just a bright sunny day
Your cares fade away
And your heart is young

With a smile and a song
All the world seems to waken anew
Rejoicing with you
As the song is sung

There's no use in grumbling
When raindrops come tumbling
Remember, you're the one
Who can fill the world with sunshine

When you smile and you sing
Everything is in tune and it's spring
And life flows along
With a smile and a song

There were two reasons why I picked Snow White. First, simply because it was the first full-length film Disney ever did, and it’s been a while since I watched it. And second, because of the Rooglewood Five Poisoned Apples contest—of which the winners will be announced in… about two weeks, I guess. It’s a writing contest, for retellings of the story of Snow White. So, why not watch one of the most famous retellings?

For this song, well, I suppose it reminded me of what I’d been doing. I was helping with chores like cleaning up, making food, getting things—but I was also helping them by making them happy. *Remember, you’re the one/Who can fill the world with sunshine*. So if I was able to do that, I’m happy.

This song is dedicated to Grandmom. She may be old in body, but “her heart is young”, as the song says, and I’m very happy that she’s my great-grandmother. Here’s wishing you a speedy recovery, and get well soon!
