The Last Last Straw

This is a momentous day—a very special day, and yet, just a little bit sad. A day bringing the end of a great thing. Today is the day of the last Last Straw.

And what, you ask, is this “Last Straw”? It’s a series of blog posts written by the famed John C. Wright. And not just any blog posts—the Last Straw series is a sixteen-part review of the one, the only, the utterly terrible film called The Last Jedi. Mr. Wright not only goes through the plot, but also the fight scenes, character arcs, twists, and potential future of the story. Or I should say, how they don’t exist. And Mr. Wright is very, very thorough in his review.

Here is the link for the final part:

If you want to read all sixteen of the parts, there’s a tag at the bottom of the post that says “Last Straw”. It leads to a page listing them all.

It’s come out every Friday for the past fifteen weeks, and we’ve come to look forward to it greatly in our household. We read it before Family Movie Night every week. And it always brings lots of laughter (for Mr. Wright’s style of review is always humourous), moments of sitting back and realizing, “Yeah, that really doesn’t make sense!”, and of course, several table-round choruses of “More stupid happened!”.

But alas, today marks the sixteenth and final installment. It will be missed in our household. It’s one of the few good things to come out of The Last Jedi’s existence, aside from the How It Should Have Ended video (which is hilariously accurate).

And it’s not to say we won’t read it again. It was just nice to have something to look forward to every Friday. Still, I think it’s given me not only writing advice, but story ideas—some of which you’ll be seeing in the coming year. Possibly even every Friday.

Thank you, Mr. Wright, for all your hard work on this series! Unlike in The Last Jedi, all of it matters to us.
